God speaks deeply to me through culturally relevant writing and visual arts. It took me a while to figure this out. Because, in church world I was taught that I had to study the Bible to understand and hear from God. So, yes, I do read Bible scripture pretty much every day. All individuals must feed their empirical ego to build a moral baseline for life based on something. But, in the second half of life I don’t always hear God speaking deeply to me from reading the Bible, or from sermons I hear at church. I mostly hear Him speak through reading creative or culturally relevant publications and from viewing inspiring visual arts.
Here’s a post that spoke deeply to me this past week about art, middle class Christians and suffering:
How do you hear deeply from God?
